After I complete the GDLT program, I would like to be a LOTE
teacher, specialised in Japanese. I am a
realist - I know that most of my students would never go to Japan, they may never
use it again after they leave schools.
But, by attending LOTE classes, I would expect students to become global
citizen. How would they achieve that? They
would learn to appreciate other culture, traditions, languages, and most
importantly people. How would I achieve that? Let them have “fun”!
An effective usage of digital pedagogy would bring LOTE education
to another dimension. The powerful tools can be ;
·
Using a video conference tool and create
“real-time” interaction with children in Japanese schools.
·
Using “You Tube” to introduce culture and
tradition
·
Travelling to Japan as well as in
Japan by using “Google Map”
·
Using “digital story telling” – exposing
students to various types of speech, i.e - styles, different gender and age
group etc.
·
Using Wiki to collaborate with children who are
learning LOTE, in local and global context
·
Becoming
“e-pals” with a native Japanese by using “e-mail” or “social network”
·
Karaoke contest (why not??)
The
biggest challenge would relate to the legal, safe and ethical aspects of ICT. If
we have any type of associations with schools and children on global level, we
must understand the relevant jurisdictions relating ICT.
Okay,
so dear GDLT students, here is a lesson for you. Topic is “ICT & Japan”.
